Mr. Amatya has over 40+ years of professional experiences in the field of energy planning and renewable energy including financing renewable energy. His works spanning over 20 years are in the field of project/programme development, planning, financing, implementation & monitoring and evaluation in the energy sector mainly decentralised and renewable energy towards energy access improvement.
He is currently a member of Independent Expert Panel of Sustainable Energy Challenge Fund jointly implemented by the Government of Nepal British Embassy in Nepal. He is also a Coach/Adviser (Country), Private Financing Advisory Network (PFAN), a global network of climate and clean energy financing experts, hosted jointly by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP). His past works, among others also include working for energy access advocacy while in Practical Action and Practical Action Consulting. As a free-lance consultant, his recent involvement include coordination of various stakeholder organisations and technical inputs to UNESCAP’s NEXSTEP modelling framework analysis for SDG 7, policy analysis and policy advocacy with focus on innovation for energy access sustainability, institutional development, and market based RE technology dissemination.
He has experience of working with in private sector as an operation manager in a mining company and as a vice president in a reputed hydro power company (Butwal Power Co. Ltd.) in Nepal and has served 15 years in the Nepal’s Ministry of Water Resources (Now, Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation) in the Government of Nepal doing pioneering works in energy planning including modelling, energy survey and database.
