Green and Inclusive Energy Programme, Nepal Project

The GIE Nepal program is an initiative from May 1, 2018 to December 31, 2020 of the Center for Rural Technology, Nepal (CRT/N) aimed at promoting the use of green and inclusive energy in Nepal. The program focuses on providing clean energy solutions to rural communities in Nepal, with a particular emphasis on marginalized and disadvantaged groups.

The GIE Nepal program has several components, including:

  • Technology Building and Training: The program focused on developing and promoting clean energy technologies such as improved cookstoves, biogas, and solar energy system. The aim is to provide affordable and sustainable energy solutions to rural households, reducing their reliance on traditional sources of energy such as firewood and kerosene.
  • Capacity Building and Training: The program provides training and capacity building to local communities, entrepreneurs, and technicians on the design, installation, and maintenances of clean energy technologies. The aim is to create a pool of skilled professionals who can support the development and adoption of clean energy solutions in rural areas.
  • Policy and Advocacy: The program engages with policymakers and stakeholders to promote policies and regulations that support the development and adoption of clean energy solutions. The aim is to create and enabling environment for the growth of the clean energy sector in Nepal.
  • Research and Monitoring: The program conducts research and monitoring activities to assess the impact of clean energy technologies on rural communities. The aim is to identify best practices and improve the effectiveness of the program.

The main objective of the GIE project was to support the advocacy and communication on gender and social inclusion within the SE4ALL initiative in Nepal

Specific objectives of the project were three-fold:

• To advocate for integrating gender responsive agendas across the SE4ALL initiative cycle in Nepal;

• Campaign at the national and subnational level on promotion of energy access for both domestic and productive energy use; and

• To support the advocacy and communication at the international level campaign on women children and health and other events on issues related to women, energy and empowerment.
