CRT/N together with Egluro, a private company based in UK, has initiated a carbon offsetting project entitled "Efficient Fuel Wood Cooking Stoves Project in Foothills and Plains of Central Region of Nepal". The project aims to disseminate about 26400 fuel efficient improved cooking stoves (ICS), both fixed type and portable, in selected areas of six districts in the Terai, namely, Parsa, Bara, Rautahat, Mahottari, Sarlahi and Dhanusha. The promotional activities include transfer of stove building skills along with the technology and some financial incentives to the stove users. The project will be implemented through local partner organisations.

Effort is being made to develop the carbon project as a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project with Gold Standard labeling. The Project Idea Note (PIN) has already been approved by the Designated National Authority (DNA) hosted by the Ministry of Environment, Government of Nepal. The Gold Standard Foundation has also pre-screened the project and has listed on its website (https://gs1.apx.com/myModule/rpt/myrpt.asp?r=113) with the serial no. GS756. The Project Design Document (PDD) is under review by a Designated Operational Entity (DOE) and has been webhosted on the UNFCCC website (https://cdm.unfccc.int/Projects/Validation/index.html) for public comments.

The project documents are now available on the websites of Egluro (http://www.egluro.com/gs-documents/) as well CRT/N for public comments.
